Areas of Practice

  • Family law is an inherently stressful and emotionally charged process that can seem complicated and daunting to navigate. We understand that divorce, paternity, child custody, support, and parenting time are all deeply personal and sensitive issues, and we know that every one of our clients comes in with his or her own unique set of circumstances and needs. As your legal counsel, we assure you that, while the process may seem riddled with traps, your current personal challenges are not insurmountable. We are here to guide you through this time with sensitivity to the delicate nature of family law, as well as with a firm commitment that your legal rights will be enforced. Whether you are dealing with contested or uncontested dissolution or separation, child custody, parenting time, paternity, child support, appeals, or even a post- dissolution name change, we are here to help ease the process and fulfill your legal needs.

  • Very few cases actually go to trial, and the judges at the trial level generally do an excellent job of managing the trial and ensuring that the verdict ultimately reached is supported by the evidence and by the law. On occasion, though, there is reason to doubt that the conclusion reached at trial is valid. On those occasions, it may be prudent to appeal the trial court decision to the relevant court of appeals. The appellate procedure is vastly different from the trial procedure. Because so few trial verdicts are appealed, finding an attorney familiar with and accomplished in the appeal process is difficult. At Ortner and Bofferding, LLC, we have experience with the appellate process from beginning to end. We will ensure that the legal issues affecting your case are presented to the appellate court in a way that is compelling and persuasive and that your arguments are given full consideration by the appellate panel.

  • Property leasing law occupies a unique area in our legal system because it controls rights that touch everyone’s lives – the right to have a home and the right to earn a living. The law holds landlords to certain duties and obligations in order to protect the rights and privacy of their residential and business tenants. At the same time, tenants have certain obligations under the law that they must abide by to protect the valuable property of the landlords and to protect their neighbors’ rights to enjoy their own property.

Whether you are a tenant or a landlord, and whether the property in question is residential or commercial, we will help you to navigate the complexities of landlord-tenant law. If you are a tenant, we will help you to enforce and enjoy all of the rights to which you are entitled under the lease and under the law. If you are a landlord, we will help make sure you are operating within parameters that the law sets forth for you, and we will help you to deal with problem tenants in a manner that protects your rights while not overstepping the limitations set forth by the law.
